Lillian Louie is a Singapore-based freelance makeup artist who specializes in making her clients feel beautiful. Her experience in applying makeup and styling hair for photoshoots, weddings, and video productions allows her to cater to a variety of settings.
My makeup philosophy is simple: to bring out your best features. I want to show you how you can embrace your unique traits and feel confident.
My passion with makeup started as a young girl getting ready for Chinese dance recitals. At my mostly Caucasian school, I felt like a wallflower, but when I stood on a lit stage after doing my own hair and makeup, I felt invincible. Once every few months, my mom and I would just stay in and play with makeup, and it was in that safe space that I explored and created different looks.
In university, I started cutting my friends’ hair and doing makeup for formals, but I did it as a way to serve my friends and to catch up in the midst of busy school life. So you see, beauty and grooming for me was not just some regimen to perform but a bonding experience–with others and within myself.
