FAQs

Why do I need a hair and makeup trial?

A trial is essential for both you and your makeup artist to (1) get to know each other, (2) discuss looks and styles that suit you, (3) and test them out. It will assist in communicating expectations so you can look and feel your best!

What are the things to note regarding the trial?

Everyone’s skin behaves differently, so it important also to see how products and styles hold up on your particular skin type after a certain length of time, especially in heat and humidity. Please follow up with the artist noting when signs of break down (e.g., smudging, oiliness, curls loosening) appear, so that application/products can be adjusted as necessary.

How long is a trial?

Trials usually take approximately 3 hours as we will try a couple of styles.

Where is the trial done?

Trials can be done either at a location of your choice or Lillian’s home studio. Please contact to make arrangements.

What do I need to bring to the trial?
  1. Photos of
    A. Yourself in your everyday makeup
    B. Your chosen outfits (color, neckline, and silhouette)
    C. Hair and makeup that you like–and keep an open mind! ^_^
  2. Any accessories (hair, earrings, etc.) or particular products that you would like to use on the day
  3. Information regarding any product allergies, skin type, and hair type/length
  4. Your camera (to take pictures after hair and makeup is done)
How do I physically prepare for the trial and/or my special event?

FACE

  • Come with a washed, dry, and clean face.
  • Use a light moisturizer without SPF at least 3o minutes before our session for the product to soak into the skin. If you are unsure, err on the side of caution and keep your face free of products.
  • It is important to hydrate and keep up a skincare regimen at least a week before the big day so your skin is at its best.

HAIR

  • Wash your hair with shampoo only (no conditioner) no less than 1-2 days before the event, and keep it product-free.
  • If you must wash your hair close to time of the event, make sure it is fully dry and and product-free.

It’s best to put on your chosen outfit before your hair and makeup, or make sure you wear a button-down shirt so as to not disturb the final product.

Do I need to use an ampoule?

Makeup looks best on healthy skin; therefore, clients are encouraged to hydrate and maintain a skincare regimen at least the week prior to the event. This is better than trying to do a “quick fix” with an ampoule on the day. At your session, your makeup artist will use skin and eye primers to ensure flawless makeup application and longevity–at no extra charge!
